Slot Paylines Explained: Lines, Wagers, and Wins
The amount shown per line is not always your total spin cost. Use Frontier Gold to see what changes when you play one, three, or five lines.

A payline is a route through the reels that can qualify for a line win. It might run straight across the middle or move between the top, middle, and bottom rows. A numbered marker identifies the route. On Frontier Gold, you can inspect the five drawn lines before you spin; a winning line number lights up on both sides afterward.
A symbol visible somewhere on the screen is not automatically a line win. Read the game's paytable to see how many matching symbols are needed and which direction counts. Bonus symbols can have their own trigger rule, separate from line wins.
| Amount per line | Active lines | Total paid for one spin |
|---|---|---|
| $1 | 1 | $1 |
| $1 | 3 | $3 |
| $1 | 5 | $5 |
| $2 | 5 | $10 |
How can more than one line win?
One spin can land matching symbols along two different active routes. Each qualifying line is evaluated, and the line wins are added together. The line numbers show which routes paid. Before celebrating a larger combined award, compare it with the full cost of that spin.
If you switch from one $1 line to five $1 lines, your total wager rises from $1 to $5. You have more active routes that can produce a line win, but the extra coverage is not free. Check both the line selection and the total wager displayed before pressing Spin.
Five lines are a feature of Frontier Gold, not a rule for every slot. House Builder uses a center line; Lotus Ways uses ways instead of drawn paylines. Read the rules of the particular machine before applying a line diagram to it.
A simple way to read the screen
Choose one line and inspect its path. Follow that route across the reels as a spin settles. Then add lines, look for the highlighted winning numbers, and compare the award with your total wager. This is more useful than counting every matching symbol you can spot anywhere in the grid.
The Lucky Penny machines use practice credits and modeled mechanics. Their paytables and bonus features explain these original games; they are not a promise about another slot's odds, payline rules, or return.
- Set the amount per line.
- Choose active lines and check the total spin cost.
- After the spin, inspect the highlighted line numbers and the paytable.

Use practice credits to see how the rules work one decision at a time. There is no real-money wagering or cash prize.
